Missing Friends

Today has been a hard day in some ways and good in others.  And I realized during church how much I am missing our home church, Northwood Alliance Church and our church family.

Where to begin...we have been going to Sunday School and enjoy the class yet we just are not connecting with people.  People greet us and say they are glad we are there but we are just not connecting.  We enjoy the worship service and the preaching is very good.  Pastor Dennis preaches very similar to Pastor Charles.  We feel challenged and encouraged from the weekly sermons.  And yet we feel so disconnected, separated.

Last week we were encouraged because we had received a letter from Pastor Dennis.  After the service I went up to talk to him while Ron was helping move stuff from the stage for VBS this week.  I told Pastor Dennis that I was encouraged by his letter and yes we seem to be having problems getting connected with others in the church.  He said he thought that was true for us and encouraged us to get involved in a SS class.  We told him today was better as I shared about my upcoming surgery and the class prayed for me, the doctors and Ron.  That helped a lot to make us feel more connected.  Pastor Dennis also said he wants to be there for us before, during and after my surgery.  He then prayed with both Ron and I.  Tears started running down my cheeks as I realized how much I had missed being able to pray with a pastor.  I was feeling very emotional and so surprised that the tears were flowing.

As we left the church, with Ron's arm around me I realized how much I was missing my friends, my church family, being connected, feeling a part of something.  At the same time we are enjoying our time here at Lone Star Corral.  We are making friends and doing things with others.  We enjoy traveling and seeing new country.  And we know we are in the place where the Lord wants us to be.  He has provided us with good jobs, we have connected with good doctors and can even handle the heat ~ did I say it has been over 100' for days now and there does not seem to be any relief in sight.  And we are so blessed.  Not just in material things but with love for each other, love for friends and family.  We are richly blessed with two great sons and their spouses and four wonderful grand-children.  And we are blessed with good health.  Even with the eye surgery looming our health is good.

We have no complaints, no major concerns, and again I come back to we are blessed in so many ways just feeling disconnected in other ways.

A Small World

We are at Medina Lake Thousand Trails this weekend.  We are surrounded by lots of trees and so many deer it is amazing.

We arrived here shortly after 5:15 p.m.  and got set up and then headed over to Hank & Euona's rig for some visiting.  As we visited we talked about where we used to live and lo and behold found out that Hank & Euona lived on Gerber Road in Sacramento, CA.  What is amazing is that my dad used to live on Gerber Road and that is where he was living when I hurt my eye in 1968.  How crazy is that - that we were just down the road from each other and now here we are friends so many years later.

I am amazed how often we meet people who have crossed paths with us or with friends of ours.  I was on Facebook a week or so ago and someone had sent me a message asking me if I knew someone.  I did not know but in chatting back and forth found out we had mutual friends and that we have supported the same couple off/on over the years in their work with missionary kids.  Again, a small world.

Last week I was also able to reconnect with a friend from high school and found out that her and her hubby lived for two years in a RV and traveled around the East coast.  So fun to reconnect with friends from the past.

What about you ~ where have you realized it's a small world in your life.

Just Thinkin'

Just thinkin' and not really thinkin' of anything in particular.

We had a good weekend.  Saturday, friends Don & Mike took us along with Hank & Euona out for lunch to Rocky's in Devine.  When we first pulled up we thought maybe they were closed as the OPEN sign was not on. Hank got out of the van and went to see if they were open.  The door opened and after about 10 seconds motioned for us to all come inside.  And so we did.  We had a great time and the food was delicious.  Ron and I had shrimp fettuccine, Don & Mike had chicken parmesan w/spaghetti, Hank had Tuscan chicken and Euona had a hamburger with onion rings & fries.  We laughed and talked for over two hours.

After we returned home we had to make a trip to Wal-Mart to see if we could get Ron's glasses repaired.  They fell out of the case when he was getting into the Jeep on Friday.  The glasses could not be repaired but we were able to get another pair of frames that his lenses fit in, and all for only $9.

Back home I did the never ending job of laundry.  Four loads!  How can two people generate so much laundry in two weeks??  In the evening we watched some TV and did some cleaning in the motor home.  That leads me to the next question...where does all the dust come from?  It seems like I sweep every day and there is still dust everywhere!

Sunday morning we slept late...I was thinking when I got up that I was fighting some type of bug ~ I just didn't feel like my perky fun self.  In the cleaning up of our rig I found our coupons for Costco and realized that yesterday was the last day of the coupons.   So off to Costco and San Antonio.  That trip took us over 4 hours!  But we don't need any groceries for quite awhile.  Whew!! Going to Costco is not my favorite thing to do but one of those necessary things we have to do.

In the evening we did some reading and watched a couple of Dateline episodes and then off to bed.

This morning I woke up feeling a little under the weather but readied myself for work.  The morning was busy with getting things ready for the CPA and catching up the mail from the weekend.  At lunch time I found myself taking a short nap.  After lunch my tummy started acting up and I kept getting cold chills.  Decided I needed to stay home this evening instead of going out with the gals from the park.  I took another two hour nap!!

I woke up thinkin I wanted to write but couldn't think of anything to write about so this post is what you get :)

I do hope y'all have a great week.
