Doin' a Little Catch Up

Sorry I have been absent for so long.

In a nut shell we have been working and playing and workin' some more.  You can check out our playing at The Wandering Workentins

I told Ron on Friday as we were driving up to Medina Lake Thousand Trails I really wanted to do some writing this weekend.  I think about different things I could write about while I am working or during my quiet time with the Lord, but when I sit down to write...nothing is there.

But today we have something beautiful to share ~ our beautiful new grandson.

Our beautiful daughter-in-love, Danalyn with Christopher before heading to the hospital
early Wednesday morning, 5/25/11.

Welcome Treyson Xzavier Tate Workentin
11 lbs 6 oz., 22 1/2" long

I just want to squeeze and kiss on those chubby cheeks!

And Christopher checking out Treyson for the first time!

We are so happy to welcome Treyson into our family.  And yes you read right...he weighed 11 lbs, 6 oz.  You can see more pictures at our other blog using the link above.

Update on my surgery ~ surgery is scheduled for July 11th at the Medina Regional Hospital in Hondo, TZ.  Barring any complications it will be an in/out procedure.  Ron and I have talked with Dr. Grabow about other surgeries I have had and the reaction to the anesthetic and so I am prepared to be admitted if necessary.  We would appreciate your continued prayers as I have the surgery and go through recovery.

Upcoming happenings ~
~ we have a camping date with our friends Hank & Euona the weekend of June 10-12.  We will be returning here to Medina Lake Thousand Trails.

~ the last Saturday in June is the Riverfest in Bandera, TX.  They have a huge car show, arts & craft fair, Bandera Idol competition, rodeo and other fun things to do.

~ July 4th is another long weekend for us...not yet sure what we are going to do.  May go to Fredericksburg for the weekend.  Hoping to see a parade and of course, fireworks.

~ July 16th Max arrives!!!  We are so excited to have him come for a visit.  We have lots of things planned while he is here: go to the Alamo, the Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Rangers museum, attend a rodeo and the water park in Bandera, check out the Snake Farm and the Wildlife Ranch where we drive through the ranch and see all types of exotic animals.  And of course swimming and eating, two of Maxes favorite things to do!

Guess that's all for now.  Thanks for following along in our journey of life.

Cataract Surgery on the Horizon

Yesterday I saw Dr. Grabow in Hondo.  He is the eye surgeon that I am following up with after my appointment with the Optometrist a few weeks back.

Here is how the afternoon went:

Praise ~ I don't have diabetes retinapothy (sp) which would complicate the cataract surgery.

What I do have ~  I have 3 different cataracts on my eye.  One that is like bike spokes, one is a yellow (very common) and one other one that had a real long name that neither Ron nor I can remember the name.  The good news is that my eye dilates real well which is one of the things that has to happen for the surgery to be a success.  He is also of the same mindset to do the surgery sooner than later.  It will happen in June if he gets a cancellation or in July at the latest.

Next Tuesday I have another appointment with him...at that appointment they will do an A-scan...it has to do with measuring the lens.  Then I will have an EKG, chest x-ray, blood tests and some other eye exam and then will be scheduled for the surgery.
Surgery will either be the first Monday of June or July...we are going to be fast tracking the different things that need to be done so I can be ready for surgery in June if he can work me in.  We should know that next week or so.  I will keep you updated on things as they come up.

Today's appointment was $125, the hospital will be around $5500 +/- $500, and his surgery which will be between $1000 & $2400 depending on how much he has to do.  + whatever the EKG,  chest x-ray and blood tests cost - we have just about that much in the savings account...which without any complications will be enough for all this to happen.  So God has provided the money...and we are so thankful He has.

I will be off work for at least two days and it could be as long as a week.  It will all depend on how quickly the eye heals.  I will be on antibiotics before and after the surgery and he will give me an antibiotic shot during the surgery + eye drops to encourage a quick healing.

And of course there is risk as in any surgery...worst case scenario is that I will not heal correctly and possibly not see at all...best case scenario is that within a couple of days I will see better than I have in years.  But he said I will always need glasses to protect my good eye.  On another note my eye socket looks great and he was pleased with that.

Will write more later when I can see better and my eye is not itching.  It started itching shortly after he dilated my eye...lucky me he said...I probably am having an allergic reaction

Thank you all for praying.  Talk to you all soon.  Love and miss y'all.  Alice

Dreams

I have been having lots of weird, different, confusing dreams in the last week or so.  Let me share one of them:

The scene:  I am working at Lone Star Corral as Office Manager.

What happened:  I am checking the mail.  In the mail is an envelope with familiar writing,  The owner of Lot #3.  The writing on the outside of the envelope says "You + 2 = 3 which is Me."  And I am livid...I am bothered by the fact this man keeps sending me these cards and letters hinting, quite broadly to say the least, that he wants a relationship with me.  And so I decide I am going to go and tell Bonnie, my boss, "Enough is Enough" and I head to the door.   In reality I wake up, ready to bound out the door ready to raise a fuss demanding this stuff to stop.  I sat on the bed and just laughed...boy was that dream vivid.

Wonder what that is all about?  By the way, the owners of Lot #3 are a sweet couple and not even here in the park right now.

And so this got me to thinking.  What causes dreams?  Do they really have any reflection on life and what is happening in our lives.  Why do I remember some so vividly and others I tell myself I want to remember and just a few minutes after waking up I can't remember a thing.

Along with dreams are nightmares.  I used to have nightmares, some several times a night.  I am so happy that the Lord has healed me from having those nightmares.   I am thankful I do not wake screaming or crying or even hitting out at people who are not there.  I guess I will take having dreams, even ones that don't make much sense to a nightmare any night of the week.

What about you ~ do you dream?  Do you remember your dreams?  Do you put any stock into them?
